IT’S OBAMARAMA ACROSS THE NATION AND THE WORLD. Never before has an election garnered this much attention. We don’t need to tell you why this is so momentous as you should already know! This has been the craziest ride, and now that it’s over, it’s surreal. But it’s real. Amidst all of last night’s election results frenzy, we decided to grab a couple of our friends and watch the media mayhem. We couldn’t tell if all that fluttering was just nervewracked butterflies in our stomachs or twinges of hunger! It was definitely something that could only be curbed by being busy–busy in the kitchen. All of these LA bars from the Valley to the Westside were hosting results parties, so we figured we would do our own bar menu for the small crowd. If there’s anyway to toast to success, it’s just like this!!!! Gooooooobama!!!!!
The chicken was sticky, sweet and fun to eat. You can use wings with this sauce as well if you want something even more finger lickin’ good.
Sesame Hoisin Chicken – Serves 8 to 10
16 chicken legs
1 cup soy sauce, low sodium
1/3 cup hoisin
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup honey
3 tablespoons chili sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
2 green scallions, chopped
1. Toast sesame seeds over the stove until they start to emit a lovely odor and slightly darken in color, approximately 2-4 minutes. Toss frequently to keep them from burning. Take off heat and set aside.
2. In a preheated 375 degree oven, bake the chicken for 25-30 minutes.
3. While chicken bakes, combine all ingredients for the sauce over the stove in a large saute pan and allow to simmer until thickened.
4. Place chicken legs in sauce and fully coat all sides. Return chicken to original baking dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cook for another 10-15 minutes or until done.
