Here’s to Good Booze

A great cocktail can be the ticket to spruce up any meal gathering. We love creating a signature drink to serve along with the food for our guests. Recently we’ve been introduced to a variety of fun ingredients that can be used to jazz up our favorite drinks. Fresh herbs and vegetables, homemade simple syrups, ginger, jalapeno slices, even bacon can be great additions to any home bar—yes, we’ve seen bacon. Sometimes it’s also about the tools you have to make it happen. Like an awesome cocktail shaker set as part of your home bar. It definitely helps you mix things up!

This past April, we met a few friends for happy hour during a trip to New York (we can’t say too much now but stay posted for more information to follow in the coming weeks!). One of the cocktails featured melon liqueur, fresh cucumber and pineapple. This was something to rave about for sure! It was also time to try it back on home turf. For this version, there was a bit of pineapple sage to enhance things. Oh, and raspberry vodka, which was already chilling in the freezer.

We mentioned a cocktail set because it’s time for a giveaway, and if you win, we hope you grab something for your home bar. Imagine your closest friends gathered round with martini glasses pointed towards you as you shake shake shake up a little something fierce for their tastes! We can just hear the ice cubes clinking now. The good folks over at CSN Stores want to give one lucky person a $60 gift certificate to use however they wish on any of their sites. We’ll make this a super easy giveaway. There are two ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment about your favorite cocktail or mocktail. Don’t forget to include your email address!
2. For an extra entry, tweet about this giveaway including our handle (@theduodishes) and leave another comment here. Again, don’t forget to leave an email address with your comment.

This contest will run until June 3rd at 12 am PST. We’ll announce the winner shortly thereafter! Until then, drinks on us! Once you stock up your home bar, of course drinks will be on you.

  4. I love margaritas! Wish our good Mexican restaurants had liquor licenses and could sell them with their delicious food! But this is Kansas, so I have to settle for On The Border for a margarita when I eat Mexican. Their sangria swirled margarita is pretty tasty!

  5. Hey Duo…I have to say by far my favorite go-to cocktail is super easy! It’s malibu rum, (any flavor)and pineapple juice with a splash of cranberry or pomogranite juice. It’s tasty regardless of the proporations. As for garnish, I use whatever fresh frruit I have on hand, or none, if such is the case!

  6. I enjoyed a couple of Lychee Martinis at an Asian restaurant and haven’t been able to forget them 😉

I always neglect to think of how cocktails relate to what I am cooking, but my sister takes care of that department in a jiffy … only problem is she likes making drinks super strong and then we have guests wobbling to the dinner table!!

  7. Wow that cocktail looks like it’s got my name written all over it 🙂 My current favourite, of course, is my recent cucumber / mint/ ginger / yoghurt / gin & tonic creation. Ask me next week and it’ll probably be something different!

  8. Mmmm. Your pineapple sage cocktail sounds good. Really like midori.
I’d like to hear about the drink with bacon! =)

    Mocktail…how about a “pomme pomme”!

  9. I don’t do all the time, but I do love the concept of having a special drink to go along with the food. This one sounds delicious and unique. Never had sage in a drink before!

  10. I always like a properly made cosmo (not too sweet!). They taste so different everywhere I order them. It is always awesome to get the perfect drink. So far, the best was at Gibson’s in Chicago!

  11. It’s true, nothing makes or breaks a night like a cocktail. And this one looks fantastic. I would have never thought to mix pineapple and sage together but now I’m transfixed!

I have to say I’m a Bloody Mary kind of girl! Awesome giveaway!

  14. I’m mostly a wino, but I love a good tart/fruity cocktail that isn’t too sweet…like rosemary lemonade fizz.

  15. Fabulous cocktail, Duo! Love the color of it and that sage/pineapple/raspberry combo sounds amazing!

This totally counts for the challenge … you’ll be in the round-up next Thursday. Thanks so much!!!

  16. Mmmmm, pineapple and sage? That must smell and taste amazing. My favorite is lemon Caipiroska with pomegranate juice. Loved your artichoke too. 😀

  18. What a cool drink idea combining melon, pineapple and cucumbers!

I do love some of hte creative drinks out there these days. My favorite Asian place does wonderful lychee martinis and green tea martinis.

When all is said and done, I love the classic margarita. If it’s done well, it’s not too sweet and just puts you in a party mood.

  19. Pear Basil Vodka Swizzle….to die for! But, this one looks really great as well.
