This is a very exciting announcement! Friday, July 8-Sunday, July 10, Blogging While Brown will hold its conference on the West coast for the first time. I will attend for the first time, in addition to co-hosting a panel entitled “Food Blogging 101” with my friend and fellow blogger, Bren Herrera of Flanboyant Eats. Here’s a bit of background for all of you. Bren and I have actually been virtual friends for a while. I first came across her site in early 2009 as Amir and I were getting our bearings with this food blog. Luckily for me, we were able to meet and hang out for the first time in hometown of Washington, D.C. in December 2009. Just a couple of months after that, we pulled together a charity event–Stir It 28— in February 2010 to raise money for Haiti relief. Along with Courtney of Coco Cooks, Bren and I organized a successful multi-city fundraising event–three cities, three hosts, one purpose. We’re working together again, and we are excited to speak to a new crowd about the food blogging and our sector of the culinary world.
One of the misconceptions about Blogging While Brown is that it’s an event for only brown bloggers. This is far from the truth. The conference is open to anyone who wants to attend, and it offers the opportunity to learn and advance in the fields of technology, social media, philanthropy and online education for the community. It has long been important to me to stay ahead of the curve in many aspects of life, and I am looking forward to stepping into a circle of like-minded individuals with a wide range of blogging interests. As soon as a call for panel submissions hit the Twitter feed last November, I immediately forwarded it to Bren with an exclamation point-infested email about contributing an idea. The panel submission was accepted, and we have been preparing for this day for a while now. We are looking forward to meeting attendees during the conference, and we hope to see many faces during our panel this Saturday afternoon. We will go beyond the how-to’s of setting up a food blog of course. The point is to discuss the opportunities and the challenges for food bloggers, the importance of branding, the reach of our purchasing power and more.
In an effort to connect visiting conference attendees with some of the blogging, social media and PR friends Amir and I have made here in Los Angeles, Bren and I will be hosting an evening happy hour event at The Capital Grille Los Angeles on Thursday, July 8th from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm. The Capital Grille will offer:
*Complimentary tray-passed appetizers
*$6 specialty cocktails and select wines and beers available at the bar, including the POM Wonderful POM Havana
*The chance to win a $100 gift certificate to The Capital Grille Los Angeles courtesy of the restaurant, The Duo Dishes and Flanboyant Eats
On top of all of that, Bren and I have partnered with several sponsors to offer a number of giveaway items during the happy hour and also during our Blogging While Brown panel discussion on Saturday, July 9th at 2:30 pm pst. Here’s what we’ll be giving away:
