This One’s For You

You could say this post is dedicated to Curtis Stone. We both attended KCRW’s Good Food Live Australian cooking demonstration and wine tasting. Curtis Stone was one of the chefs on deck that afternoon, and he made a remarkably fantastic mustard-brushed rack of lamb that was rolled in fresh herbs. It was out of this world. Why hadn’t we thought of doing that? As much as we both talk about our love for fresh herbs, we’ve never used them to clothe meat. Perfect idea. This was a meal that must be attributed to Curtis Stone and this simply genius idea.

This Is It: Foodbuzz Bloggers Take Over San Fran

Like Michael Jackson’s movie currently in theaters, the recent First Annual Foodbuzz Blogger Festival proved to be the can’t-miss event of the year! From our mouths to your ears (or eyes), we’re moving to San Francisco! Well, not really, but one can dream. The best part of the whole event was its location in the beautiful Bay city. We love this place! It is a much needed departure from LA where the air is crispier, the buildings taller and the sky may be a brighter blue. San Fran = Joy. And we want more of it in our lives!

We Like It Hot…Kinda

Have you ever added spice to something with slight trepidation in your heart?  Gently shaking ground cayenne pepper on chicken cutlets or lightly tossing extra sriracha into a steaming wok of fried noodles, all the while afraid that the outcome may be too hot to handle.  We like kick in our food, but we have accidentally added a bit too much, and once it’s in there, it’s hard to cut.  Call us wimps if you like, but we just can’t handle it. We try to ride the line between spicy tingle and burnin’ ring ‘o fire mouth.  Although we both come from a line of folks who like to toss on those ‘kick your a$$ to high heaven’ or ‘not for wussy wimps’ hot sauces, we just haven’t been able to work our way up to sweating while we’re eating.  It’s not our style. We hit the kitchen with a desire for something that would ride the line without sitting too far on either side–not too bland and definitely not overwhelming.

Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: Creativitea on the Grill

We’re a tad frazzled with this month’s 24, 24, 24, but we hope our vision comes together for you in the end!  When Foodbuzz sent out a call for entries, we submitted our proposal just a couple of hours later.  The idea was buzzing in our heads, and we knew it’d be so fun to complete.  Unfortunately, we weren’t chosen.  Boo.  But one week later, we received word of a last minute cancellation, which meant there was room for us to squeeze in.  Yay!  We really love hosting these types of events for our friends, so needless to say, this was a great way to roll into the upcoming weekend.  And then it hit us!  We had a lot of planning to do–planning that we clearly had not been prepared to do.  So we went back to square one and started to re-brainstorm from where we’d left off following the proposal.  From there, it was nothing but a blast!

Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: Teach a Man to Fish

We feel very lucky to have a third round with Foodbuzz’s 24, 24, 24 series.  Literally the second the call for entries was announced, we had the idea.  The old adage says ‘If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day.  Teach him how to fish, and he’ll eat forever.’  We believe in that all the way.  Quite frankly, we cook for ourselves all the time, and we cook for friends and family all the time.  We are always ready to share our food experiences with other people, but not everyone can quite appreciate everything in the same ways as we do.  We have a couple of friends who we’ve always deemed ‘picky’, whereas they find themselves to be ‘particular’.  Semantics really.  The interesting thing is that they both have a desire to expand their own cooking prowess in the kitchen, and that is where we saw a spot for the Duo.

We are not Martha Stewart and Gordon Ramsey, but we like helping and teaching people in the kitchen.  Our goal is to take two specific eaters and work with them to construct a three course menu, assist in the shopping and, of course, pitch in with the cooking.  In the end, our hope is that they will have put at least one or two toes outside of their comfort zone and end the evening with a couple of recipes that they can re-create anytime, on their own.  On your marks…

Now It’s Your Turn

You may have already guessed that we love ourselves a dinner party.  Love it!  From planning the menu, shopping for the groceries and assembling all the goodies in the kitchen to passing out the plates, laughing with friends, and of course sipping on some wine.  Our parties usually involve lots of wine–that’s just how we do.  Then there’s the dancing around the kitchen when the food tastes just right.  Our parties always involve lots of dancing…tasting and dancing.  It all brings us complete joy. The best part of the whole thing is sitting down after all the hard work and taking that first bite.  What’s better?  We just don’t know!

These dinner gatherings usually involve us hosting and cooking everything, but it wasn’t too long ago we were on the East coast and invited to a dinner party where the whole meal was prepared by someone else–a lovely couple by the names of Brooke and Ben.  We love these parties just as much–the ones where we arrive and just eat.  It really was wonderful handing over the apron and being the guest for a change. The food looked absolutely beautiful and tasted so delectable that we had no choice but to recreate a similar feast for our friends a couple of weeks ago.  We observed all of the food prep during the first party and took notes of the hosts’ cooking prowess. This post captures our version of that special meal Brooke and Ben created.  We did our own little spin to each dish of course, but the essence of the original feast was there, even their idea of cooking most of the meal “en papillote”.  So fancy.

Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: Eating Down the New Year Parisian Style

Lauberge de montparnasseOh yes, that’s right ladies and gents.  The New Year was spent in Paris.  And it was lovely.  Quite lovely at that.  Being an American in Paris is already special, but being an American in Paris on New Year’s Eve is spectacular!  Especially when you get to spend the last day of the calendar year feasting on fabulous French cuisine.  No doubt there is nothing but good eats in the City of Light, and lucky for us, we found them.  This  meal was even better because Duo was chosen to be part of Foodbuzz.com’s December 24 ,24, 24 extravaganza–24 meals from 24 bloggers in 24 hours around the world.  Chouette!
